Some homes are worth staying in no matter what. Mike Conway and his family loved their hundred year old East Sacramento home, but the layout had reached its limit. With a growing family and very little extra square footage, they needed more breathing room. Instead of leaving their neighborhood and starting over somewhere else, Mike made the decision that many East Sac homeowners ultimately make. Build an addition. Stay in the community they love. And design a space that truly works for their life.
The Starting Point
Mike wanted to add about 260 square feet to create a proper master suite.
The new layout would include:
- A spacious master bedroom
- A private master bathroom
- A walk in closet
- A dedicated laundry room
The biggest challenge was making the addition look like it had always been there. The original home had unique charm from top to bottom and blending old and new takes intention and craftsmanship.
The Vision
Mike had a clear sense of what he wanted. He asked for a rock solid build that honored the look and feel of his hundred year old home.
The addition needed to inherit the same stylistic details, including:
- Popsicle shaped archways
- Rustic top nail hardwood flooring
- Clean plaster style walls
- A mini split system that worked quietly and efficiently
- Large windows to bring in natural light
He did not want the space to feel modern in a way that clashed with the existing structure. He wanted it to feel like a natural continuation of the home he already loved.
The Build Process
Once Mike completed his engineered plans, he hired Rossle Homes to bring the new suite to life. Our team handled everything from start to finish. Demolition. Foundation. Framing. Electrical. Plumbing. Roofing. Exterior work. Interior finishes. We managed every trade, every inspection, and every milestone.
In total, we completed the home addition in five months and fifteen days.
Every city and special inspection passed on the first or second visit.
Quality remained the priority at every stage.
Inside, the new suite came together beautifully:
โข The master bedroom received wide windows that washed the room with daylight
โข The hardwood floors were custom milled to match the original top nail pattern
โข Smooth walls and warm trim tied the old and new spaces together
โข A quiet mini split unit provides efficient heating and cooling
โข The bathroom features a popsicle arched mirror, natural wood vanity, quartz counters, and a bright walk in shower
โข The new laundry room includes a custom built enclosure and floating shelves for storage and organization
Every detail speaks the same architectural language as the original home.
Bringing It All Together
The biggest hurdle during the project was coordinating the SMUD cutover appointment.
They were booked out more than a month, which caused a brief standstill on site. Even with the delay, our team adjusted the schedule, reorganized tasks, and still delivered the project a full two weeks ahead of the original timeline.
This is where strong project management makes all the difference.
When the final clean was complete and the last fixture was installed, Mike and his wife finally walked into their new master suite. Their reaction said it all. The addition felt spacious, warm, and perfectly aligned with the rest of the home. They were excited to move in, excited to settle into their expanded space, and excited that they did not need to leave their neighborhood to make it happen.
Their home did not just get bigger. It got better.

Many Sacramento families face the same question. Move to a bigger home elsewhere or expand the home they already love. A well designed addition allows you to stay rooted without sacrificing comfort.
If you are considering adding space, Rossle Homes can help you design and build a seamless addition that feels like it has always been part of your home.
