Stunning 1980s Spa Transformation

Project Description

Some bathrooms only need a refresh. This one needed a rescue mission. The original master bathroom in Shirleneโ€™s Orangevale home had an open concept layout that made no practical sense. The toilet sat awkwardly in the middle of the room with no privacy. The shower enclosure was covered in aging mosaic tile that had long passed its prime. The floors were stained, uneven, and ready to be replaced. Everywhere you looked, it was clear that the room no longer served the needs of a modern homeowner.

It was time for a full rethink and a complete redesign.

The Starting Point

Before Rossle Homes stepped in, the master bathroom was something of a puzzle. The layout made the room feel larger on paper but far less functional in real life. The open shower had become crusty and difficult to clean. The vanity had old tile countertops and builder grade cabinets that had seen too many years of wear. Even the flooring told the story of a space that had simply reached the end of its usable life.

Shirlene wanted something completely different:

  1. A sense of warmth and calm
  2. A luxury spa inspired layout
  3. Golden and beige tones throughout
  4. Much better storage for clothes and essentials
  5. A freestanding tub to enjoy at the end of the day
  6. True privacy for the toilet area

She trusted our team to take her dated master bath and turn it into a personal retreat.

The Vision

We began by reimagining the entire layout. The first major change was the creation of a dedicated wet closet. This allowed us to give the toilet its own private room, instantly making the entire bathroom feel more intentional and much more enjoyable to use.

The rest of the space would become bright, warm, and open. We selected materials that brought gentle golden tones into the room without overpowering it.

  1. Vertical textured wall tile in a soft beige
  2. Large format marble look porcelain for a clean and continuous floor
  3. Brushed champagne gold plumbing fixtures
  4. A frameless fluted glass shower panel
  5. A sleek freestanding tub
  6. Warm natural oak cabinetry with recessed medicine cabinets above

Every choice supported the goal of creating a peaceful spa environment that felt elevated but undeniably timeless.

The Remodel Process

Once demolition began, we removed everything down to the studs. The old open shower enclosure, the mosaic tile, the outdated vanity, and the tired flooring all had to go. With a blank canvas, we started framing the new layout. It was also at this time that we uncovered pre-existing damage. The windows were failing and letting in moisture and unwanted critters. That needed to be taken care of.

The wet closet was built out first, giving the toilet its new home. Then came the walk in shower, complete with a rain shower head, handheld sprayer, two recessed niches, grab bars in a matching gold finish, and a solid surface corner bench.

One of Shirleneโ€™s favorite additions was the new freestanding tub. She never had a tub in her master bathroom before, and she wanted something that felt sculptural and relaxing. We placed it in a spot where it could become part of the visual flow of the room without feeling cramped.

We also upgraded her closet. Her previous setup offered a rod and shelf system, which meant wasted space and very little organization. We installed a custom closet system with drawers, adjustable shelves, double hanging rods, and integrated lighting. For the finishing touch, we added a full wine rack so Shirlene could enjoy her space exactly the way she wanted. We also addeed in an HVAC line into the master closet to provide air circulation.

Throughout the process we maintained our signature communication style. Daily updates. Clear scheduling. Smooth coordination with trades and vendors. Shirlene always knew what was happening and what was coming next.

Bringing It All Together

When the last fixture was wiped down and the new lighting was switched on, the transformation felt incredible. The room that once felt chaotic and outdated now looked like a private spa suite. Clean lines, warm tones, and thoughtful details came together perfectly.

The brushed gold accents added a luxurious glow. The ribbed glass shower panel created visual interest while keeping the space open. The seamless flooring made the entire bathroom feel larger and brighter. And the new closet system gave Shirlene far more storage than she had before.

She was thrilled with the result. Her reaction said everything. She finally had a master bathroom that matched her taste, her lifestyle, and her desire for a peaceful retreat.
